There is no policy in place in Canada for minimizing food waste. Instead, local organizations such as Second Harvest and FlashFood in Toronto are paving the way for local food waste prevention activists. In France it is illegal for supermarkets to waste food. all unsold food must be donated to charities. The Italian government is offering tax breaks when businesses, supermarkets, or farmers donate their leftover food and yield to local charities Korea’s high-tech solution to food waste includes charging residents for the weight of trash they produce. This is controlled via garbage cans equipped with scales and card readers. Australia continuously ranks as the worse country on the food sustainability index. Politicians blame the harsh heat as the main source of food spoilage. Cities in Sweden have developed a process to convert locals food waste into biogas to fuel 90% of their city buses. Each small bag of food waste can create enough fuel to drive a car 2.5 km!
